Area Information

Area recoomendations from your REEA Conference Chair, Lucy Michaud

Boston, Massachuets - The drive to Boston from UConn (or directly from Bradley Airport).  It's a little over an hour from the UConn campus.  Take I-84 east from Storrs (Mansfield, CT) all the way into Boston.  Once you get there, I recommend the Duck Tour.  It's inexpensive and the vehicles go from the road into the water.  Be sure not to miss Faneuil Hall Marketplace.

New York City, NY – The easiest way to go to Manhattan is by Amtrak Train.  You would drive to Union Station in downtown Hartford, park your car there and take the 141 Northeast Regional train to NYC.  It leaves at 6:35 a.m. and arrives in Penn Station at 9:20 a.m. (2 hrs. and 45 mins.)  A reserved coach seat is $32 one way and you can buy tickets online.  Once you're in the city, I recommend Times Square and Rockefeller Center.  To get back, there's a train called the "55 Vermonter" leaving Penn Station (another $32) at 3:32 p.m. and arriving in Hartford at 6:24 p.m.  Then it's about a 45-minute drive back to Storrs.

OR you might want to check into Peter Pan Bus Lines - as they could have what you are looking for. There is a Peter Pan bus leaving campus every day during the summer for trips to New York and Boston.  Discounted bus tickets are available for purchase at the UConn Co-op, across the street from the Business School.  REEA members can go to the Peter Pan website to see the bus schedules.  All of the buses go to Hartford, and then leave for New York or Boston from there.  The one-way cost for the bus ticket is $28 for most routes.

Have fun!
